New York (pronounced /nuː ˈjɔrk/ ( listen)) is a state in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions of the United States and is the nation's third most populous. The state is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south, and Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border with Rhode Island east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Ontario to the west, and Quebec to the north. New York is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City. New York City, which is geographically the largest city in the state and most populous in the United States, is known for its history as a gateway for immigration to the United States and its status as a financial, cultural, transportation, and manufacturing center. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, it is also a destination of choice for many foreign visitors. Both state and city were named for the 17th century Duke of York, James Stuart, future James II and VII of England and Scotland. New York was inhabited by the Algonquin, Iroquois, and Lenape Native American groups at the time Dutch and French nationals moved into the region in the early 17th century. First claimed by Henry Hudson in 1609, the region came to have Dutch forts at Fort Orange, near the site of the present-day capital of Albany in 1614, and was colonized by the Dutch in 1624 at both Albany and Manhattan; it later fell to British annexation in 1664. The borders of the British colony, the Province of New York, were roughly similar to those of the present-day state. About one third of all of the battles of the Revolutionary War took place in New York. New York became an independent state on July 9, 1776 and enacted its constitution in 1777. The state ratified the United States Constitution on July 26, 1788 to become the 11th state. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Best way to cook thin New York Steaks? Q. I have 2 thin slices of New York Steak. I've already soaked them in coke for 5 hours to tenderize. Now I'm marinading them in my favorite steak rub. What's the best way to cook them? In oven or on a pan? Please elaborate, thanks! :) Oh btw I want them medium-rare. Asked by aricmel - Wed Jun 11 22:22:38 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think I'd pan fry them on medium high since you said they're thin. If you decide on the oven, I hope you meant the broiler. No matter what temp you would choose for the regular oven, they would just dry out since they're thin. For the pan frying, just put a little butter or oil in the pan on medium high heat, when the fat is hot, add your steak. Flip after about 2 minutes and cook until desired doneness. Answered by Dottie R - Wed Jun 11 22:28:02 2008 What is the weather like In New York In September? Q. I am travelling to New York mid September. Can anyone tell me what the weather is normally like at that time of year and offer any advice as to what type of clothes I should take? Asked by jimmychoogirl1908 - Mon Aug 17 10:59:43 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. For about the first two weeks of September, it is pretty hot, like mid 80's. It will gradually get cooler, into the 70's then 60's. So pack some tank tops, shorts, and sandals, but also bring jeans, sweaters, and long sleeve shirts because it will get kind of chilly, especially at night.
